Wii U Controller Seems To Have Control Sticks

Wii-U Controller Seems To Have Control Sticks

It looks like Nintendo has changed the design of the Wii U's controller, adding control sticks instead of discs. The above photo was reportedly tweeted by a QA tester at TT Games, but has since been removed. As you can see, the control discs featured in the original controller design are gone, in favor of more traditional sticks. Check out the difference:

We don't know if the above photo represents the final design of the Wii U's controller. But I sincerely hope so. I've gotten my hands on a Wi U at CES, and while the disc controllers worked fine, I did wonder why Nintendo didn't go with the more traditional joystick.
We should learn more about the Wii U (hopefully a LOT more!) at E3 2012, an event G4 will be all over, bringing you live coverage, interviews, videos, demos and many surprises, so don't miss it!

Despite what you may believe, heart attacks rarely happen “out of the blue.”

In fact, your body may be trying to warn you of an impending heart attack for days, weeks, perhaps even a month or two before it occurs. Unfortunately, by the time you actually recognize you’re suffering a heart attack, it could be too late to prevent death or debilitating heart damage.

So-called silent heart attacks, with signs and symptoms that are mild or seem unrelated to the heart, have long concerned cardiovascular expert Dr. Chauncey Crandall. So Dr. Crandall recently created a special free video presentation about the four most sinister warning signs to watch for.

Statistics show a clear link between a delay in heart attack treatment and death or disability. That’s why it’s essential to know exactly what your heart is trying to tell you with warning signs like those discussed in Dr. Crandall’s video.

Although developed as an educational tool, this video rapidly went viral, surpassing 5 million viewers in just a few months.

Newsmax Health Publisher Travis Davis attributes the viral sensation to the fact that the content hits close to home for many Americans, especially because heart disease is America’s #1 killer. In fact, in the U.S. alone, nearly 1 million people suffer their first heart attack each year.

Dr. Crandall, chief of the cardiac transplant program at the renowned Palm Beach Cardiovascular Clinic in Palm Beach, Florida, practices on the front lines of interventional, vascular, and transplant cardiology.

Decades of clinical experience have afforded him the chance to detect little-known warning signs and symptoms like the four he addresses in the video.

Plus, in the video Dr. Crandall also tells the real-life story of one man who suffered a “widow-maker” heart attackafter ignoring the warning signs — and almost paid the ultimate price. The story is scary but eye-opening, because Dr. Crandall outlines what could have been done to actually prevent this from progressing to the life-threatening stage.

Dr. Crandall, medical editor of the Newsmax publication Heart Health Report, has a positive message: you don’t have to be a sitting duck for a deadly heart attack. In fact, according to Dr. Crandall, heart disease can be prevented — and even reversed — with the right information and simple lifestyle adjustments.

Religion, spies step forward in "Civilization V" update

(CNN) -- Creating your own religion in the real world can result in weird looks, unusual friends and sometimes, visits from law enforcement officials.
Creating your own religion in the soon-to-be-released expansion for "Civilization V" results in bonuses and benefits on your way to world domination.
The new "Civilization V: Gods and Kings" expansion pack offers players two revamped elements to the iconic real-time strategy game -- faith and spies. Neither is entirely new to the franchise, but each has been redone to make it more interesting and rewarding to use.
Faith is a new resource, like gold or science. Civilizations can accumulate faith by building shrines, temples and mosques. Acquire enough faith and your fledging country can discover its own pantheon of dieties. Pantheons reward players with bonuses based the way the player has played the rest of the game. As such, the player can decide what sort of beliefs the gods represent about their civilization.
Bring enough followers to your cause and eventually you can create a fully formed religion (I called mine "The Force"). You will also get additional bonuses to your civilization as a whole, and specific additions to city abilities. Later, you can enhance your religion and gain more benefits.
There are a limited number of religions that can be created and not every country will get to create their own. This puts a premium on developing faith early in the game so you can acquire the bonuses best suited to your playing style.
Religion was introduced in "Civilization IV," but this expansion to "Civ V" boosts its abilities to offer benefits to the entire civilization. For instance, there was no condition for a religious victory in the preview build of the game. Religion passively crosses borders and spreads to neighboring civilizations, but active missionary work can only occur in friendly cities and city-states.
The developers at Firaxis really tried to make religion something unique for each player and playing style. There are plenty of choices for beliefs and some new leaders players can control offer additional faith benefits.
The preview build of "Civ V" ended in the year 1290 (189 turns) so it will be interesting to find out how religion plays out in the later stages of the game when it will have to compete with more technology-based units and goals.
The second "new" unit is the Spy, but unlike its predecessor in other versions in the franchise, it isn't a specific unit to move around on the battlefield.
The "Gods and Kings" expansion pack comes with a steampunk scenario called "Empires of the Smokey Skies" and offers a good opportunity to use the spies. The scenario starts out in the Steam Age and offers steampunkish new abilities and units, like the Land Leviathan and the Sky Fortress.
The civilization leaders are decked out in top hats, wielding goggles and other trinkets you'd expect in a steampunk adventure. The goals of the scenario are also different from the traditional game. Become the leader in five different categories and you win.
Spies play a big role here and help players keep an eye on their rivals. You can assign them to steal technology, find out information or kill enemy spies. They also will slant local voting in your favor to give you a better reputation in the city where they're working.
In past "Civilization" iterations, spies would have to sneak their way to an enemy city, do one mission and hopefully escape with their lives. In "Gods and Kings," spies stick around in the cities where they are assigned for as long as they want (provided they aren't discovered).
This allows players to concentrate on other aspects of the game while still getting intelligence reports on their neighbors. Spies can be reassigned, but do you really want to risk an information black hole in the city you're leaving vacant?
The "Smokey Skies" scenario was short, but offered the best chance to see the spies in action. I only recruited one spy in normal game play in turn 187 and that happened spontaneously. Will there be something in the later stages that helps players recruit more agents or train them better?
"Civilization V: Gods and Kings" will offer more units, buildings, Wonders of the World and new civilizations to try out. Revamping the religious and spy elements will make the game even more thoughtful (if that's possible) and challenging for new and experienced players alike.
"One more turn" just got a whole lot harder to avoid.

Cable companies to expand free Wi-Fi

Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Bright House and Cox all agreed to allow customers roam on one another's free Wi-Fi hotspots.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- If you buy Internet access through your cable provider, your subscription is about to get much more mobile.
Five of the nation's largest cable providers, including Comcast (CMCSA), Time Warner Cable (TWCFortune 500), Cablevision (CVCFortune 500), Bright House and Cox, announced on Monday that they will allow customers of any of the other four services to use their free Wi-Fi hotspots when traveling outside their home network area.
So, for example, when a Cox subscriber in Cleveland travels to Philadelphia, they can use a Comcast Wi-Fi hotspot for free.
Over the next few months, the five companies will open up their 50,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country to competitors' customers. In out-of-network areas, users will be able to log on to hotspots labeled "CableWifi."
It's not launched yet, but the companies are working on technology that will store users' credentials so their customers can be automatically logged in.
The cable providers' partnership is similar to how cell phone carriers allow their customers to roam on other networks when traveling. That's intentional: The cable companies say they are looking to compete with mobile carriers' new 4G networks that make broadband-like speeds available everywhere.
"We believe that WiFi is a superior approach to mobile data," Kristin Dolan, Cablevision's head of project management, said in a prepared statement. "Cable providers are best positioned to build the highest-capacity national network offering customers fast and reliable Internet connections when away from their home or business broadband service."
The partnership expands upon a 2010 agreement reached by Comcast, Cablevision and Time Warner Cable to allow their rivals' customers to roam on each others' networks of Wi-Fi hotspots. That deal was limited to the Northeast.
With Bright House and Cox added to the mix, the network now has hotspots in New York, Los Angeles, Tampa, Orlando, Philadelphia and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut.
The cable operators said they will continue to increase the number of available hotspots, particularly in high-traffic locations such as parks, beaches, shopping areas, malls, cafes, restaurants, and sporting and concert arenas.
Wireless carriers are increasingly relying on Wi-Fi technology to help offload traffic from their oversubscribed networks, particularly in crowded areas. Though many carriers are aggressively deploying Wi-Fi hotspots on their own, cable companies would like a piece of the action.
But new "small cell" technology may give carriers an edge on their rivals.
A new standard called "Passpoint" coming this summer from the Wi-Fi Alliance governing body will allow carriers to automatically switch customers to their Wi-Fi hotspots in crowded areas, without requiring any authentication from the user. That kind of seamless transition will make Wi-Fi a much more appealing option than it is currently for cellular customers.  To top of page

Chrome overtakes Internet Explorer as No. 1 browser -- maybe

The Google Chrome logo is displayed at a store in London last year.

(CNN) -- This might be the start of a new chapter in the browser wars.
Over the weekend, Google Chrome routed more Internet traffic than Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which long has held its spot as the most-used Web browser in the world, according to data from StatCounter, an Internet monitor.
Don't rush to over-interpret this bit of news, though.
Other Internet trackers still show Internet Explorer -- which comes pre-installed on many Windows computers and has long been a default -- in the lead.
And some groups have criticized StatCounter's data collection methods, saying the group does not account for the different ways countries collect Internet traffic data.
Still, the numbers are a sign of the times.
Google Chrome, which is regarded as the hipper, faster and more developer-friendly browser, is gaining ground on the competition.
"Whether Chrome can take the lead in the browser wars in the long term remains to be seen, however the trend towards Chrome usage at weekends is undeniable," StatCounter's CEO Aodhan Cullen said in a written news release in March, when Chrome bested Explorer for a day. "At weekends, when people are free to choose what browser to use, many of them are selecting Chrome in preference to Internet Explorer."
According to StatCounter's latest report, which was spotted by the blog Global Nerdy, Google Chrome fielded 32.8% of Web page requests on Sunday.
That compares to 31.9% for Internet Explorer and 25.5% for Mozilla Firefox, which once was seen as the most viable alternative to the long-dominant IE.
Tech blog TheNextWeb says the numbers aren't exact but they are significant.
"Measuring the Web is an imprecise science, very often based on scaling up small scale measurement surveys," the blog writes, "but the gist of StatCounter's data over the last year indicates that Chrome use is rising ... at the expense of IE and Firefox, regardless of the exact precision of the data."
ComScore, another company that tracks Internet traffic, does not release comparable numbers. But spokesman Andrew Lipsman said in an e-mail that StatCounter's numbers are "consistent with what I've seen."
"Chrome has definitely been increasing its share over the past couple years," he wrote.
Several factors appear to contribute to Chrome's rise.
One is frustration with Microsoft's Internet Explorer, which, fairly or not, is seen by some Web users as not very innovative.
Another is the increasing role Chrome plays in all aspects of computing, especially for people who use Google's other online services, like Gmail and Google Translate.
Some of the browser's features enhance other Google products, and the Chrome Web store is home to an increasingly robust catalog of add-ons that improve the browser's functionality. CNN's partner site Mashable has published a list of some of the best.
Google also has tried to position the browser as the basis for the operating system of the future.
And then there's the ad campaign.
Google has been running TV spots showing people using Chrome to communicate with each other. The tagline: "The web is what you make of it."
