what nba daft can get you

Ben Gordon traded to the Bobcats for Corey Maggette and a 2013 protected 1st-round pick.
I know this is a pic from his Bulls’ days but I’d like to note that he’s saving a seat for each of the Bobcats’ wins.
Attn: Mike Smith, SportsPage writer and Bobcats fan.
In all seriousness, this is a good deal for the Bobcats. I have a feeling that this deal will revive Gordon’s career. He’s moving from a crowded backcourt in Detroit to possibly the best scorer on the Bobcats (Maybe it’s Kemba). The Cats have a crowded backcourt too but I imagine Gordon will start at the 2 as Augustin and Kemba are more of 1s. In the NBA there is something I call “The Al Jefferson Effect”. This rule means that someone will end up putting up numbers on a bad team. Gordon will fill that role. The Cats also got a 1st round pick from the Pistons - A lottery-protected in 2013, top-eight protected in 2014, top-one protected in 2015 and unprotected in 2016. The deal is a rebuilding move for the Pistons. They saved about $14M dollars. I don’t see the Pistons being out of the bottom 10 in the next few years. I should also mention that I don’t like Maggette’s game.
The next move I would do if I were the Bobcats is trade the 2nd overall pick to Cleveland from the 4th and 24th picks in the draft. With the 4th Pick take Harrison Barnes. Barnes will be able to start at the 3 and will instantly be able to score. He still needs to develop some skills but the talent is there. With the 24th pick, take a big. Draymond Green, I’m not sure if he can play the 4 but he can rebound, score, pass, and is said to be a good leader. Jared Sullinger, A year ago there was no way he’d drop to the 20s. He has back concerns though. Maybe take a guy who I think has high upside in Andrew Nicholson. He’s a very efficient scorer.
If the Bobcats wanted to, they could trade Augustin (even though I like him more than Kemba). I’m not sure they’d want to but they should consider it. It seems like they’re never going to play Tyrus Thomas so shop him. If you can get anything for him that won’t hurt your cap, do it.  He’s a veteran but not a leader for the young core. I read somewhere a suggestion that he should be their amnesty. I’m not sure if I’d do that, but I’ve loved his talent for a long time, he must have value somewhere.
Despite a historically bad season, If the Bobcats play the draft right they could have two first round picks three years in a row. That could be a solid foundation. Three of them could be in a decent spot. If it’s a good core to build around, they will have the money to bring in a star or some very good veterans going forward. I guess I’m saying, Mike Smith, it may have been a terrible season last year, but it could be worse. Maybe you’ll get lucky and Jordan will get kicked out of the game again.
