Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009)
Description Of Ghostbusters: The Video Game
Watch out for slime and avoid crossing the streams in this surprise continuation of Sony Pictures' Ghostbusters franchise. Written by stars Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, who scripted both blockbuster films, Ghostbusters: The Video Game features a storyline set two years after the events depicted in Ghostbusters 2. Hailed by New York City residents as heroes, the Ghostbusters are hoping to turn their thriving business into a franchise, much to the chagrin of ex-EPA agent Walter Peck. After the Ghostbusters hire a new crewmember, the city is overwhelmed with a surge of paranormal activity. There's something even stranger in the neighborhood, and you're getting the call.
Since the game is all about hunting down and capturing ghosts, the perspective is set behind your character's shoulder to offer a clear view of the rooms and spectral anomalies ahead. The third-person viewpoint also displays one of the most important tools you'll have in confronting the ghosts: the Proton Pack. You must monitor the Proton Pack's power consumption to avoid overheating the device, and the backpack's flashing display also indicates health and weapon charge. Your character will be in constant radio communication with other members of the Ghostbusters team, including Peter Venkman, Raymond Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddmore, each voiced by the movie's original actors.
While the storyline and core play mechanics are the same across platforms, the Wii and PlayStation 2 games share a simplified, cartoon-like art style and an emphasis on multiplayer action. The first notable difference is cooperative support throughout the campaign via split-screen display, with the Wii version offering four-player action and the PlayStation 2 game offering two. Competitive modes include two playable sides: Ghostbusters or ghosts. As a ghost, you can fly or phase through specific areas in a room. You can also "scare" rivals by sneaking up behind them, leaving your victims more susceptible to attacks. As one of the Ghostbusters, you can use proton packs, ghost traps, and character-specific special techniques. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

Madden or NCAA? Improving Madden NFL 13 starts with making the game look and feel like a polished NFL package. Each time you head to kickoff, EA wants this to look like an NFL game you'd be watching on Sunday afternoon. That means the generic overlays are dead. Now, everything's blue, silver and strikingly similar to a CBS telecast -- a feeling driven home by Jim Nantz and Phil Simms manning the commentary booth. Each game opens with a lip-synced cutscene of the boys in the press box as they give you a rundown of the matchup and a bit of history. From there, EA's promising constant chatter and adlibbing; thus, burying last year's awkward pauses and terrible audio patchwork.
There's motion blur for the on-field action, depth of field effects, sharper field art and the return of halftime states, but this is the icing on the cake. After a few games, we'll all start skipping the introductions and get over the fact that every stadium's press box view is the real life one. Gameplay is where it's at, and EA has done a bunch to make it feel fresh.
Now, NCAA Football fans, let's have a chat. Below is an infographic showcasing all the bells and whistles EA has added to Madden NFL 13, and you're likely to notice the list is pretty muchthe NCAA Football 13 list from last week. See, there is still a Madden team and an NCAA team at Tiburon, but there's also a gameplay team that oversees both games. This way the best minds are working on both products and the games can evolve together.

Madden NFL 13 Sees What's Broken, Tries to Fix It
As developers from Tiburon started talking about the presentation and gameplay of Madden NFL 13, it became clear that IGN's Madden vs. NCAA video had to be completed and out the door before this preview, because EA's looking to change everything that video bitches about.

Not too shabby, right? The developers said they're really focusing on "pass and catch" this year, and the additions above seem to be up that alley. Here's some more explanation if pretty 49ers infographics aren't enough.
Dropbacks - No longer will every snap look the same. Quarterbacks are getting 7-step drops, 5-step drops and so on. EA doesn't want you holding down on the stick to try and get away from the line -- let the QB do his job.
Trajectories - Remember last year when you'd throw a screen pass and the ball would arc in the air just long enough for the defender to screw everything up? Tiburon's created 25 trajectories to get the ball to the receiver in the most appropriate way. This means shovel passes, dumps and so on. Sure, you could always choose between a bullet or a lob in Madden NFL 12, but the trajectory of the ball was always the same. Not anymore.
QB Avoidance Moves - You're going to move slower in the pocket this time around -- at least when looking to pass -- but now you have the eight directions of the right stick to move your quarterback. These little stab moves buy you time to get free and make the play.
Receiver Awareness - All those times when you'd complete a pass well before the receiver completed his route? You're not going to be doing those as much if EA has its way. This year, the icons over receivers will light up when a player is expecting a pass. This doesn't mean he's open. This just means the receiver is looking for the ball. Similarly, you can throw when the icon isn't lit up, but the chances of a catch are lower.
Read & React Defense - The days of the blind swat are over. To make a play, the defender is going to have to have his eyes on the ball. Also, coverage is going to be disguised this year. If the offense sends a man in motion, zone coverage is going to send a man, too, so as not to tip its hand.
What do you think of Madden NFL 13 so far? Let us know in the comments below, and be on the lookout for more Madden coverage here

Unlike NCAA Football 13, I got lots of time to play Madden, and the changes feel good. Good to the point that I might be more excited to jump in and fool with this slick version of Madden more than the tried and true NCAA franchise.
The new ability to lead passes with the left stick is going to really help my scramblin' ways once I get the hang of it. I still fell victim to a Play Action Sack, but I was playing as the Bears, so that's probably more on Cutler's O-line than anything else.
Still, the thing I'm most ready to get more time with is switching to user-control on players. I've tried to take control of receivers as the ball is in the air to them for years in Madden, but I always seem to lose a step or get off my route. This year, EA has slowed down switching to receivers and defenders so that chumps like me have a chance. I didn't get a chance to really kick the tires on this, but I'm looking forward to doing it one day.

No More Heroes
Description Of No More Heroes
Travis Touchdown is the name, slicing and dicing is his game. No More Heroes is a stylishly violent combat game in the sardonic spirit of films like Kill Bill. Players must take out ten rival killers, with names like Death Metal, Dr. Peace, and Destroyman, and their hellish henchmen before they "intercept" Touchdown. While Touchdown's primary attack is an upgradeable beam katana blade, he is also schooled in grapple moves made popular by professional wrestling. In between assassination attempts, players can relax in Touchdown's interactive motel room (where he can play with his cat, watch wrestling videos, or save progress by sitting on the toilet).
Players can also work a number of side jobs to earn extra spending money. Mowing lawns, collecting coconuts, and other offbeat occupations are available as mini-games, each taking advantage of the system's motion-sensing controls. The action takes place within the fictitious city of Santa Destroy, home to a video store, baseball stadium, burger joint, gym, pizza parlor, and other hangouts. Players will travel from target to target on a massive motorcycle that can perform wheelies, jumps, and pavement-scorching turbo boosts. Directed by Goichi Suda, best known for Killer7 on GameCube and Contact on DS, the M-rated No More Heroes features a distinctive cel-shaded visual style. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed (2008)
Description of Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed
Big-brained alien Crypto the Furon makes his Wii debut in this continuation of THQ's Destroy All Humans series. A new '70s-era storyline has Crypto defending a restaurant franchise named Big Willy's, where the "meat" consists of lightly salted Earthlings. A rival chain overseen by Colonel Kluckin threatens to hurt Big Willy's business, so Crypto must do whatever it takes to ensure human hot dogs remain on the menu. Players will guide Crypto through 23 missions across four themed environments, with most objectives, fittingly enough, focused on destroying as many humans as possible. Crypto will fry enemies with his Zap-O-Matic and perform more humorous attacks by turning rivals into spontaneous dancers or flesh-eating zombies.
Other tools of the alien trade include an ion detonator, anal probe, jet pack, and disintegrator ray, but Crypto can also use mind control to accomplish objectives. Crypto's cranium can move and throw objects as well as temporarily infiltrate a human's body to sneak past hostile areas. When the going gets tough, Crypto gets going in his flying saucer, where he'll be able to abduct humans or activate new weapons like the sonic boom or electro cone. Big Willy's mascot, which bears more than a passing resemblance to Big Boy, is controllable as well. Big Willy can stomp across areas, throw vehicles, fire heat beams, and even use bodily functions to sicken nearby enemies. In addition to the solo campaign, Big Willy Unleashed offers both cooperative and competitive modes for two players. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

Soul Calibur Legends (2007)
Description of Soul Calibur Legends
Directed by Tetsuya Akatsuka and produced by Jin Okubo, two veterans of the Soul Calibur series, Soul Calibur Legends follows the story of newcomer Iska on a journey that uncovers the events taking place between Soul Blade and Soul Calibur. On a quest to unify the pieces of the Soul Blade, Iska and seasoned Soul Calibur character Siegfried Schtauffen must maneuver around traps and other obstacles as they make their way through each of the ten dungeons.
Along the way, the party is open to attack from an assortment of enemies and bosses. Gamers use the Wii-Remote and Nunchuk to slice and dice their opponents, and the control schemes vary between each playable group member. The skills and armory of each avatar also improves as they gain experience through combat. Tak and the Guardians of Gross (2008)

Description Of Tak And The Guardians Of Gross
THQ's tiny tribal shaman returns for another series of adventures, this time on a quest to rid the world of four giant "Grosstrosities" that he accidentally unleashed. The series' traditional platforming has been supplemented with a new "parkour" style that lets Tak run up walls, slide down poles, and swing on vines, all while trying to rid the world of the Stink Giant, the Slime Giant, the Landfill Giant, and the Molten Cheese Giant. There are a handful of stench-themed mini-games in each level, gamers can control Jeera through a special jungle-driving level, and as always, players collect "juju" magic spells to help ward off enemies. ~ Christopher Brown, All Game Guide

Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars (2008)

Description Of Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars
In Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars, players set out to save a uniquely weird world, from the point of view of a three-inch-tall walking mushroom. Players guide their fungus hero through nearly a dozen levels of classically styled 3D platforming, with plenty of environmental and inventory puzzles to solve along the way. As he explores each level, the player's Mushroom Man can gather together found objects and items, and fashion these into tools to help him accomplish goals and overcome obstacles. Other special abilities, such as the hero's power to glide through the air on the his mushroom cap head, and his springy, grappling-hook-like "Sticky Hand" tool, help him reach otherwise inaccessible locations and objectives.
As the story goes, a strange comet passed close to the earth and spread a strange green dust across the planet, bringing ordinary plants consciousness and mobility. The different species banded together into tribes, and then began to quarrel and eventually go to war with one another. Alas, if only all good Mushroom Men everywhere could learn to overlook their differences and embrace their similarities. Both The Spore Wars and its sister game, Rise of the Fungi on DS, feature the same style of 3D platforming action, through the same stylized, mushroom-themed world. Each game follows its own storyline, however, with the DS game serving as prequel to the Wii game. ~ T.J. Deci, All Game GuideRed Fly Studio
